History
The Trade Adjustment Assistance for Firms program (TAAF) was created in 1974. It has long been an integral part of our nation's trade policy. By helping small companies that have been negatively impacted by direct foreign competition improve their global competitiveness, it addresses the downside of free trade without the use of tarriffs, duties or other trade barriers.
The Great Lakes Trade Adjustment Assisstance Center (GLTAAC) was established in 1983 to better serve import-injured firms in Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. It has been located at the University of Michigan since its founding.
The objectives of GLTAAC are to:
- Immediately strengthen a firm's competitiveness through practical assistance via planning and analysis, and
- Enhance long-term opportunities for business growth and employment through management and technical assistance.
